Residential Hot Water Program

Australia (since 2021)

Water heating creates significant demand for electricity, which has historically been managed by grid operators through static schedules (called ‘controlled load’). While controlled load programs have been successful in shifting loads from peak hours to night hours they do not maximise the dynamic load shifting needed in a renewables driven market.

With Kinergy’s Energy Flexibility Platform, electric hot water loads can be dynamically shifted to off-peak hours based on real-time grid data without comprising customer experience.

In Australia, the program, operated through Origin Energy, has been orchestrating more than a hundred thousand devices through dynamic control and site level optimisation leading to lower energy costs, more stable wholesale markets and without impact to customer amenity.

Solar Battery Program

Australia (since 2019)

With 1 in 3 households in Australia having solar PV, more and more households are installing batteries to make best use of their self-generated energy (Clean Energy Council). Growing distributed storage capacity is highly relevant as a grid backup reserve and provides additional wholesale trading flexibility.

Kinergy’s Energy Flexibility Platform has been orchestrating battery load of Origin Energy customers since 2019 by integrating with leading battery and inverter brands and providing an attractive offer to end-customers.

Electric Vehicle Orchestration

Australia (since 2019)

The uptake of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is expected to soar (Statista Market Insights), and EV charging is predicted to be a major driver of residential energy consumption (Electric Vehicle Council).

We have been pioneers in piloting demand-side management solutions for EV owners as early as 2019.

Working with Origin Energy’s Electric Vehicle (EV) offerings, the Kinergy Energy Flexibility Platform provides dynamic optimisation of EV charging. In contrast to many other energy assets, however, EVs are active-use goods that are only connected to a charger at selected times and require sufficient charging depending on customer habits.

Therefore, the interface of Kinergy ENGAGE allows EV users to set charging preferences and limitations to help ensure that the asset orchestration optimises the energy bill without interfering with the customer experience.
